Beverage-in-Hand Game This Saturday!

28 Apr

For those of you not on the UPLA mailing list, we bring you an announcement – boozy ulty! I played in my first Beverage-in-Hand/Beer-in-Hand ultimate game last December, and it’s definitely a treat. I believe that BIH, usually an annual event, is truly in tune with the fun-first aesthetic that we (generally) adhere to at Frisbee-ish and the Lake Creek game.

If you’d like to carpool out to the game (it’s in Wimberley), or have a spare seat in your vehicle, please leave a comment below and tell us when you’d like to arrive and leave.

I do not know if the host, John Houck, is related to Ren Hoek of Ren and Stimpy, but you can ask when you get there.

Okay, here’s the announcement:

World’s Biggest Disc Golf Day just added beverage-in-hand (BIH) Ultimate!
Here’s a chance to recreate Austin’s big-fun, once-yearly BIH Ultimate game.
And get a t-shirt or golf disc.
And play all the disc golf you wish.
All for $10!
It’s for charity, CARY, which helps at-risk youth, and the Disc Golf Foundation.
It all happens at John Houck’s 36-hole Circle R disc golf ranch (and Ultimate field) approx. 60 minutes southwest of downtown. “The flowers are blooming and it looks real pretty,” Houck says.
Ultimate starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30. Disc golf starts at 9 a.m. The course is open until 5 pm.

What is BIH? (From the sacred Riverside Handbook Assorted Ephemera)
bring beer (or beverage of your choice….and during the rest of the rules when I say beer you can substitute “beverage” if you don’t plan on drinking beer).
all ultimate rules apply…except you must have a “beer in hand” while playing.
playing with an empty beer is a turnover.
dropping your beer when catching is a turnover.
no glass containers on the playing field.
spilling your beer is not a turnover….but is considered a spirit violation and beer that is forever lost.
bring beer.
If you have any questions consult your riverside handbook…chapter 12 subsection 132A…or just post your question to Riverside’s yahoo group. We never seem to lack “expertise” on any subject.

And in unrelated news, yes, a dedicated group of heathens and fallen played a good game at Lake Creek last Easter Sunday. Mostly 6 on 6. Happy Easter!
